Is PSM (plant-starch) cutlery compostable?

Is PSM (plant-starch) cutlery compostable?
Short answerNo. PSM blends contain a large share of PP plastic and do not fully break down, so we describe PSM only as ‘partially bio-based’ and never as compostable.

In more detail

PSM is a lower-cost option and is accepted in some markets, mainly the Middle East, Southeast Asia and Latin America, and in the USA when sold without a compostable claim.

It is not offered for the EU, UK, Canada or Australia / New Zealand, where plastic cutlery rules apply.

Basis: Material composition from supply specifications; OKFoodware labelling rule.
